Timber framing is one of the oldest building techniques in the world, from a lowly hog shed, to massive cathedrals. Some of the oldest bridges in America are built with timbers, and can outlast steel or concrete bridges. In modern times, the solidity of timber construction in combination with modern insulation and foundations can make a spectacular home. In addition, the aesthetics can range from rustic to ultra-modern.
The custom frames produced by Oakleaf Building Specialites, Inc. come from a local sawmill that saws the timbers to order. The majority of the work is done at the shop in western Wisconsin. The joinery is hand cut, using power tools where they can speed the process, with the final fitting done with mallet and chisel. The members are test fit prior to shipping to the site for erection.
